Comments on "effects of Bandwidth on Glottal Airflow Waveforms Estimated by Inverse
نویسنده
چکیده
In the subject paper (Alku and Vilkman, 1995; hence AV), AV describe the results of their research on the effect of bandwidth on estimated voice source parameters. They found that reducing the bandwidth (by low-pass filtering the glottal flow signals) leads to a distortion of the estimated parameters. Although I do agree that low-pass filtering influences the estimates of the voice source parameters, I do not agree with some of their conclusions, explanations, and recommendations. Furthermore, the method they used does not seem to be optimal for the purpose of their research. These matters are discussed in this Letter. PACS numbers: 43.70.Aj author: H. متن کاملSteady Flow Through Modeled Glottal Constriction
The airflow in the modeled glottal constriction was simulated by the solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations for laminar flow, and the corresponding Reynolds equations for turbulent flow in generalized, nonorthogonal coordinates using a numerical method. A two-dimensional model of laryngeal flow is considered and aerodynamic properties are calculated for both laminar and turbulent steady flows...
متن کاملObjective Severity Assessment from Disordered Voice Using Estimated Glottal Airflow
In clinical practice, the severity of disordered voice is typically rated by a professional with auditory-perceptual judgment. The present study aims to automate this assessment procedure, in an attempt to make the assessment objective and less laborintensive. In the automated analysis, glottal airflow is estimated from the analyzed voice signal with an inverse filtering algorithm. Automatic as...
متن کاملSpeech Communication Session 5aSCa: Flow, Structure, and Acoustic Interactions During Voice Production I 5aSCa6. Acoustic coupling during incomplete glottal closure and its effect on the inverse filtering of oral airflow
Inverse filtering of oral airflow using closed-phase linear prediction is expected to preserve the effects of source-filter interactions in the glottal airflow pulse. Under incomplete glottal closure, the glottal airflow estimation is more challenging due to a lowered glottal impedance, increased subglottal coupling, and violated all-pole assumption. To account for these effects, a model-based ...
متن کاملParameterisation Methods of the Glottal Flow Estimated by Inverse Filtering
Estimation of the source of voiced speech, the glottal volume velocity waveform, with inverse filtering involves usually a parameterisation stage, where the obtained flow waveforms are expressed in numerical forms. This stage of the voice source analysis, the parameterisation of the glottal flow, is discussed in the present paper. The paper aims to give a review on the different methods develop...
